Cpl. Beaumont enlisted in the National Guard in July 1917 as part of the 1st New Jersey Regiment. He achieved the rank of corporal.
On October 8, 1918 Gen. John J. Pershing ordered the 29th Division to attack east of the Meuse in order to eliminate German guns that were hindering the flank of the American Expeditionary Forces. The 113th and 114th Regiments took the Bois d’Ormont on October 12, 1918. Beaumont was one of 118 soldiers who lost their lives in this attack.
John K. Beaumont is buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery Plot B, Row 42, Grave 1.
