Maj. Benjamin F. Pepper was a practicing lawyer in the Philadelphia area, and close friends with Capt. Harry Ingersoll, who is buried in an adjacent grave. He served in Battery A of the Philadelphia Volunteers during the Spanish American War and received his commission as major when the United States entered World War I. Pepper was hit by a rifle bullet, right after exhorting his men, “Come on, boys, follow me and give ‘em hell!”
